Nokia announces the names of 24 winners of Nokia Ke Asli Champion's initiative

Nokia announced the names of 24 lucky winners of ‘Nokia Ke Asli Champions' initiative, a multi city consumer initiative for cricket enthusiasts that ran alongside the Nokia Champions League Twenty2O cricket tournament. Seven of the 24-lucky winners were from Delhi and were part of ‘Priyanka Chopra's Asli Champion team' and got once-in-a lifetime opportunity to meet the Bollywood star and saw the finals of the biggest international cricket tournament - Nokia Champions League Twenty20 LIVE with her. The winner's names were announced by Mr. Viral Oza, Director - Marketing, Nokia and Priyanka Chopra at The Park Sheraton, Chennai yesterday.

As a part of the initiative, Nokia created a digital hub- www.nokiachampions.com, where all the entries were uploaded. Participants had to garner support digitally from their peers for their entries. From over 15,000 short-listed entries uploaded on the digital hub, 24 lucky winners were selected by a panel of esteemed judges such as actor and cricket commentator- Mandira Bedi. Nearly 90,000 enthusiasts participated in Nokia Ke Asli Champions initiative from across India. Additionally, the contest saw close over 16,000 videos being uploaded on the hub.

The 24 winners were selected from the various initiatives of this campaign, which included 8 winners from the Nokia Air Cricket Championship, 6 from Nokia Commentary Champions and the rest from other exciting initiatives Nokia undertook for this campaign. The 24 Asli Champions will be watching the finals of Nokia Champions League T20 LIVE with Priyanka Chopra today at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. While one lucky Commentary Champion, Mr. Farooque Omar, will be commentating in the Finals of the Nokia Champions League T20 along side, Gautam Bhimani.

According to Priyanka Chopra, Bollywood actor, “India is one country where cricket is like a religion and we follow and support the game like no other nation. Keeping that in mind, Nokia Ke Asli champions was a fantastic initiative launched by Nokia giving these young cricket enthusiasts a chance to show their passion for the game. I have had the chance to see some of the videos of Air cricket and Commentary championship and I see passion and talent in abundance.”

‘Nokia ke Asli Champions' initiative was based on the core insight that that there is a ‘real' champion in all of us and through this initiative, Nokia gave the cricket enthusiasts an opportunity to unleash the ‘champion within'. As a part of the campaign, cricket enthusiasts participated in ‘Air Cricket', ‘Commentary' and ‘Slogan' Championship. The activation was held at colleges, youth hangouts, malls and corporate hubs across eight cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Pune, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Viral Oza, Director Marketing, Nokia said, “All our initiatives at Nokia are conceptualized with an aim to connect with the consumer, the youth and fans and not just highlight the association with the property. Nokia Ke Asli Champions initiative was part of the same endeavor. The campaign leverages cricket as a platform and borrows from various facets of the game ranging from pure skill based ‘play' to commentary. We received an overwhelming response from cricket enthusiasts across India; received close to 90,000 registrations and over 16,000 videos uploaded, which is incredible.”

Nokia Air Cricket Champion

The ‘Air Cricket' competition began with on-ground activity at youth hangouts, pubs, colleges and corporate parks. A participant needed to imitate his/her favorite cricketing action – batting or bowling - in front of an LCD screen with a camera at a kiosk. The videos were recorded and uploaded on the digital hub www.nokiachampions.com. The participants then needed to promote their videos through social networks. The most voted videos were shortlisted and the final Nokia ‘Air Cricket' champions were then selected by a panel of celebrity judges, who will watch the finals LIVE with Priyanka Chopra.

Nokia Commentary Champions

Nokia partnered with Red FM 93.5 across six cities – New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata, to run this competition on air. Participants were given a situation by the RJs to commentate on. One winner from each city was shortlisted per day and won a Nokia BH-609 headset. The competition started ran 20th September to 6th October. The city champions were voted by the listeners and the 6 city winners will go on to watch the finals with Priyanka Chopra. That's not all – the ultimate ‘Nokia Commentary Champion' gets to commentate live, on air* alongside a professional commentator in the finals of Nokia Champions League T20 competition.

Nokia Slogan Competition

Participant could also buy a Nokia phone from a retail outlet and SMS the IMEI number to 55555 to receive contest details. Consumers then sent in their slogans and got a chance to watch the finals of Nokia Champions League T20 competition with Priyanka Chopra.
