An online game against dowry, Angry Brides, launched on Women's Day has caught the fancy of women gamers on ibibo.com. Interestingly the game has been developed by matrimonial site Shaadi.com.
In this game, players can punish dowry hungry grooms with brooms, chappals and stilettos. In doing so, players not only channelize their anger against dowry but also make a strong statement against it.
As the players proceed through the various levels of the game, different options of weapons are available for the 'angry brides.' With these they can hit three different husband-types: a doctor, an engineer, and a pilot; with different price tags! Each hit adds up towards the "anti-dowry fund."
The tag line of the game says – "A woman will give you strength, care and all the love you need ... not dowry!"
Sangeeta Chauhan, a gamer on ibibo.com couldn't agree more. She says: "While women in India have come a long way, there still exist some age old taboos which hinder their status in society. Angry Brides is a fun game which reminds us that together we can stand-up against this inhuman practice."
