Restaurateur Anjan Chatterjee receives 'The Most Admired Food Service Personality' award at Food Forum 2012

Anjan Chatterjee, the founder MD of Speciality Restaurants Limited, which operates Mainland China, Oh! Calcutta, Sigree and other restaurant brands, has won the prestigious award of Most Admired Food Service Personality of the Year. The award is presented by Food Forum India 2012, the largest congregation of global and Indian food retailers, manufacturers and organisations in the Indian food business.

Anjan Chatterjee's passion for gourmet cuisine found its expression in the restaurant, Only Fish, which he started in 1991. Thus started a journey of serving authentic cuisines to the food connoisseurs of the country! The first Mainland China was launched in 1994 in Mumbai, followed by launch of Mainland China restaurants in 21 cities across India and one in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Sigree, Machaan and Flame and Grill are the other brands operated by Specialty Restaurants Limited which are being operated in various cities across India. Anjan Chatterjee's passion for serving good food keeps growing.

Anjan Chatterjee holds a bachelor's degree in science from University of Calcutta and obtained a diploma in hotel management, catering technology and applied nutrition from the State Council for Engineering and Technical Education, West Bengal. He has over 30 years of experience in the advertising and hospitality industry which includes training at Indian Hotels Company Limited as a management trainee.

Anjan Chatterjee launched the first restaurant of the network in 1992 under the name Only Fish, which was later renamed Oh! Calcutta in 1996. In 1994, the Promoters launched the first Mainland China restaurant in Mumbai. Today, Speciality Restaurants Ltd., a fine dining operator in India, has grown the restaurant business and brands the network comprises over 73 restaurants and confectionaries collectively, located in 17 cities in India and one in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. It focuses on providing guests an affordable fine dining experience with quality food and service in a modern ambience.

Today, Speciality Restaurants consists of different restaurant concepts located across India. The flagship brand is Mainland China, which serves Chinese cuisine in a standalone fine dining setting. Chinese cuisine is the most popular foreign cuisine in India according to the India Retail Report 2009. The other core brand, Oh! Calcutta, encompassed seven restaurants and features a range of cuisines from the East Indian city of Kolkata, including Bengali, Nawabi, British and Continental cuisines served in a fine dining setting. The other restaurant brands are, Flame & Grill, Haka, Just Biryani, KIBBEH, Kix, Machaan, Sigree, Shack, as well as a confectionary brand, Sweet Bengal.
