Gobsmack and Jim Sonzero create the new ad campaign for L'Oreal

Sonam Kapoor, clad in a breathtaking Jean Paul Gaultier black leather outfit, looks straight into the camera and asks: where does a tree get its strength? She pauses and answers: from its roots! Jim Sonzero calmly calls for a cut and tells Sonam that he loves the vibe but wants her to angle her body for a better look for her hair. Music plays in the background of the set, a symbol of how Jim works his set in a calm, relaxed manner. A master at his craft and ranked as one of the top beauty directors in the world, Sonzero explains why he signed with Gobsmack by saying: “I loved the fact that despite representing some of the best companies in the world, the roster at Gobsmack remains small enough to give each director the attention and care they deserve, something that I missed in my previous experience.”

The collaboration seems to working be as the result speaks for itself. The series of L'Oreal ads, Sonzero's debut work under the Gobsmack! Banner is now on air and is generating a lot of buzz for the brand.

Nathalie Gerschtein, director at L'Oreal Paris India, reiterates how important it was for L'Oreal to have a world class production in place for a brand as iconic as theirs. She explains, "You know, the clients are always tough and very demanding, especially at L'Oreal, where most of the time we have a very clear picture of what we want to achieve with our partners. I think there has been a very good understanding of the ins and outs on both sides from day one on this project, and this enabled us to be very happy with the output, though it was a very high tech and hence difficult shoot."

To bring Sonzero's futuristic vision for the campaign to life, Gobsmack! Enlisted LA based FX house Proof of Concept, a frequent collaborator with Jim Sonzero. The entire post was done in a record time despite the people involved being spread across the globe and different time zones. "I love these guys," Proof Of Concept's founder and EP Stuart Wilson talking about how much he appreciated the whole working system says unabashedly. "They have a great understanding of the business and how we work." Wilson was impressed not just by the fact that the budgets Gobsmack! Brought for the post and finishing work on this spot were respectable, but that folks at Gobsmack have a very high bar and they expect the best," he adds.

Bringing world-class talent and setting the bar high is the vision that motivated Shyam Madiraju, Gobsmack's founder to sign Jim Sonzero and his company Sonzero Films, for Indian representation. A noted director himself, Madiraju not only understands and empathizes but also values the qualities Jim Sonzero brings to Gosbmack! He explains, “It isn't often you get to bring on a director of Jim's stature on board. The man is a one of the top 5 beauty directors in the world. His body of work is intimidating impressive so obviously we are very excited that he is now a part of the Gobsmack family”.

Sonzero has worked with top beauty brands like L'Oreal, Maybelline, Garnier, Neutrogena and Pantene across the globe and with celebrities like Aishwarya Rai, Sonam Kapoor, Hayden Panettiere, Jennifer Garner, Chinese superstar Fan Bing Bing and Emma Roberts to name a few.
