Realising the criticality of energy saving for future generations, Godrej Appliances has decided to give every citizen of India a unique opportunity to take a pledge to save energy for a greener tomorrow through its ‘One Watt Campaign’-‘Lets Save a Billion Watts’ – a national consumer connect initiative to make people aware about energy conservation and going green.
As a next step towards the success of the Phase 1 of the campaign that was kicked off on 17thApril in Chandigarh by Mr George Menezes, COO, Godrej Appliances and Adam Gilchrist, Captain – Coach, Kings XI Punjab; the One Watt Campaign will reach out to the masses over the next 2 phases with the prime objective of saving a billion watts over a period of 12 months.
Phase 2: A School Awareness Program from May to September 2012, where Godrej Appliances will reach out to more than 1000 schools and colleges, to create consciousness amongst the younger generation about the importance of conserving energy.
Phase 3: A Corporate Awareness Program from November 2012 to February 2013 to urge corporates to come and pledge for savings of watts by altering some of the ways in which they use electrical gadgets both in office and home.
In order to render its support for this campaign, Godrej Appliances has partnered with CMCA (Children's Movement for Civic Awareness- NGO) to take this campaign across more than 1000 schools across India.
Adam Gilchrist, Captain-Coach, Kings XI Punjab signed the first pledge today as the kick start of Phase 2 of the ‘One Watt Campaign’ as his contribution, followed by Mr. George Menezes, COO, Godrej Appliances and Ms. Priya Krishnamurthy, Executive Trustee, CMCA (Children's Movement for Civic Awareness- NGO) signing their pledges respectively.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. George Menezes, COO, Godrej Appliances, said, “Godrej Appliances over the years has demonstrated its commitment in environment conservation by launching the highest energy efficient green products. Apart from, as a group, over the years, we have undertaken initiatives to conserve our environment through series of initiatives. One Watt Project – ‘Lets Save A Billion Watts’ campaign is focused on spreading awareness about energy conservation and getting consumers to participate in the effort. Our endeavor is to save a Billion Watts through this year long program with the belief that if every Indian even saves 1 watt each, being a country of billion plus population, we will be able to save a Billion Watts.”
Adam Gilchrist, Captain-Coach, Kings XI Punjab, said at the launch, “Talking about this association, in Cricket there is essentially one type of deal between companies and teams, which is sponsorship. But with Godrej we do not see this as sponsorship but as partnership. We are extremely proud to be associated with brand Godrej for this note worthy cause. I have young children. Young being the word, youth of today are the future and we have to make sure that the environment and planet they live in is as healthy, if not, healthier state that we have been fortunate enough to live in. We really look forward to doing our part today and in the future and hope everyone out there participates in this program.”
Added Ms. Priya Krishnamurthy, Executive Trustee, CMCA (Children's Movement for Civic Awareness), “It is truly heartening to see Godrej Appliances’ commitment for this initiative. We are honoured to be associated with them for this endeavour and we will do our bit to take this message to the masses through the younger generation of today, who are more conscious and concerned than our generation, because this is the world they are going to inherit.”

• One Watt Project – ‘Lets Save A Billion Watts’ campaign by Godrej Appliances is launched on a social platform to communicate and make people aware about energy conservation and going green
• The One Watt van, apart from recording real time pledges, will also display the various ways in which people can pledge towards a greener world. Some of the most energy efficient and green appliances from the Godrej Eon range will also be displayed.
Flagged off from Chandigarh on April 17, the One Watt Project vans (through 2 buses which are actually ‘Exhibition on Wheels’) toured across the country reaching out to approx 20 cities such as Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Chennai amongst others and plans to touch a total of 32 cities by 5th of June with a saving of at least 20MN watts.
