Oliver Herrgesell named to senior communications post at Turner Broadcasting International

Communications executive and media expert Oliver Herrgesell is joining Turner Broadcasting System International as senior vice president of communications, it was announced today by Jeff Matteson, senior vice president of communications for Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. In his new role, Herrgesell will serve as Turner Broadcasting’s chief communications and public relations executive in markets outside the U.S., charged with developing communications strategy and overseeing execution of messaging related to Turner’s international business portfolio and industry position. Taking up the role on December 1st, he will work closely with Gerhard Zeiler, president of Turner Broadcasting System International. Herrgesell will be based in London at Turner International’s EMEA headquarters.

“This position and Oliver’s professional stature reflect the importance of our international business interests,” said Matteson, to whom Herrgesell will report. “Oliver brings experience, standing and a long working relationship with Gerhard Zeiler to a senior leadership role that will have significant influence on the company’s continuing efforts to position, advantage and grow its international entertainment, animation and news brands’ profile and collective success.”

As head of International communications, Herrgesell will provide strategic direction and thought leadership to Turner’s multi-national communications and public relations staffs in EMEA, Latin America and Asia Pacific, with a focus on message prioritization and coordination. He will work closely with U.S.-based communications colleagues to integrate and align on programming and other initiatives that increasingly cross the Turner Broadcasting portfolio.

Herrgesell served as executive vice president of communications, public affairs & marketing for RTL Group in Luxembourg from 2006 until earlier this year. Previously, he was chief press officer and head of internal communications for Bertelsmann AG, following a successful writing and editing career with newspapers including Die Woche, Berliner Zeitung and the magazines Wiener, Tempo and Stern. He also produced and wrote television programs for ORF and Premiere/Sky Deutschland. He has received awards for excellence and innovation in journalism. Herrgesell studied history and politics at the University of Vienna.
