Grand Prix winners of Golden Camera International Photo Award are finally known!

Grand Prix winners of Golden Camera international photo award were announced at the gala ceremony on Firday, 22nd of March.

Over 3000 professionals and amateurs of photography from 60 countries of the world participated in the International contest. Jury had really tough time reviewing more than 10 000 photographs. Finally short list was worked out of 230 most talented works. It’s the first award of International level in Ukrainian history of photography. The award was introduced and organized by the oldest photography school in Ukraine – Kyiv Photography School.

Prize fund of Golden Camera award made 40000 UAH.

• Grand Prix in «Best photographer of the year» nomination was presented to the famous Ukrainian photojournalist Yefrem Lukatsky for his report «Protest against passing the law about Russian».

• Grand Prix in «Photograph of the year» nomination will leave to India. «Green unlimited» is the title of Somenath Mukhopadhyay’s victory work in genre style».

• Gabriele Croppi from Italy won the prize in «Photo series of the year» nomination with his series called «Metaphysic of the Urban Landscape».

• Denis Kravets, Ukraine became «Discovery of the year» thanks to his conceptual photo series «Ambrotypes».

• One more prize was given as a result of open vote on the official website of the Award. «People’s choice Award» went to Elena Rossihina, Ukraine and her photograph «Curtain down».

International expert jury was represented by well-known photographers, cameramen, artists and art critics: Bogdan Verzhbitsky, Andreas Gertzau, Andrey Zharovsky, Evgeniy Zubenko, Igor Krivonos, Evgeniy Komarov, Alexander Lyapin, Alexandra Nabieva, Michael Pedan, Roman Pyatkovka, Iryna Ruzina, Konstantyn Sova, Anton Solomuha.

Bogdan Verzhbytsky, honored master of Arts in Ukraine, a jury panel member: «I would really like to emphasize on the proficiency and high level of skill of the photographs sent to the contest. Moreover, I would say that amateur photos were hardly behind the professional ones in the level. Trust me, it was a really formidable task to define the best in such a row of admirable photographs.

Roman Pyatkovka, photographer, teacher of photography, winner of international awards, a member of the jury panel: «Unfortunately, Ukraine doesn’t have enough photo festivals and contests, not mentioning them being of an international level. It’s the first time I am judging in the Ukrainian contest of such scale. I do hope it will become annual.

Konstantyn Sova, photographer, founder of Kyiv Photography School, a member of the jury panel: «It’s high time to introduce a new perception into the system of photograph assessment. Just have a look around and you’ll see the same faces everywhere - they both judge, and give interviews, and make comments, and are being talked about. And occasionally new names and faces emerge. Our aspiration is to make way for them.

Dmytriy Shovkoplyas, curator of the «Golden Camera» International Award: «I am really happy about the fact that photography as an art came into focus again. For sometimes it feels as if this kind of visual art is completely neglected despite the fact of the enormous impact that photography makes over modern world and its perception by a man.

230 works of Grand Prix winners and contest finalists are now being exposed in the Center of Modern Art M17 up to 27th of March.

During the exhibition period all photographers will have opportunity to get to the master classes of Oles Badio «Classical portrait» and Alexander Lyapin «Photographer’s artistic self definition».

Golden Camera photography award was created as a platform for discovery and promotion of new names. Our aspiration is to form decent system of a photographer’s skills assessment, to develop and promote the the art of photography.
