Company Release, December 1
New Delhi
O2 announced the launch of the Xda Atom, a device so sexy it is guaranteed to turn heads wherever it goes. Small, light, fast and powerful, the Xda Atom is the world's smallest multimedia
PDA-phone packed with even more features than its predecessor, the Xda II mini. It is an exclusive design available only from O2 globally.
Small and mighty
The Xda Atom smashes all common perception that gadgets and work belong to the domain of nerds by proving that technology and productivity can be sexy too. Wrapped inside its sensual ergonomic curves and smooth piano-black casing is a digital meltdown of the best and latest in mobile entertainment, connectivity and productivity. This portable powerhouse - smaller than a
deck of cards - lets you do everything you do in an office stylishly wherever your day takes you.
More entertainment in your hands
Besides its good looks, O2 proves that innovation can be sexy by incorporating many "firsts" into the Xda Atom. It is the world's first PDA-phone to feature a 2.0 mega pixel camera. A built-in flash helps you capture pin-sharp photos and richly hued videos indoors and outdoors, day
and night. You can revisit fun moments on the device's large 2.7" 262K-colour QVGA TFT-LCD touch-screen, instantly beam them to your friends, or simply slip out the memory card and print them at any photo kiosk to keep and share.
Want more entertainment? The Xda Atom is the first PDA-phone to feature an FM radio tuner, which is good news for the growing number of users in India who regularly tune in to FM radio. In addition, there is the new O2 MediaPlus application, which is the first multimedia centre created for PDA-phones. Besides being the only software to offer equalizer settings with Windows MediaÒ Player 10 (so you can customise your audio experience to suit any musical genre), O2 MediaPlus gives you complete control over your entertainment experience, and plays music, audiobooks, home movies and music videos from one interface. You can rock to your favourite radio stations and imported MP3s, or watch downloaded films and sports game highlights easily and conveniently wherever you are.
Having this device in your hands also means you no longer have to carry a separate MP3 player. The Xda Atom lets you do so much more. For example, you can create playlists on the Xda Atom and bypass your PC altogether, or go wireless and listen to music in stereo playback with Bluetooth headsets.
More productivity in your hands Besides putting you on the forefront of mobile entertainment, the
full-featured Xda Atom also puts more computing power into your hands by offering a seamless integration of mobile office solutions. It is the first device from O2 to run on the new Windows MobileÔ 5.0 platform and give you enhanced features in MicrosoftÒ Office programs for Windows Mobile (including Word Mobile, ExcelÒ Mobile and the new PowerPointÒ Viewer). You enjoy programs that are more PC-like, direct access to your hotmail and POP3 accounts from Microsoft OutlookÒ, improved battery life, and permanent storage of data even upon reset or battery drain. You can work and rest easy knowing your information (your "digital black book" even) is secure and with
you at all times.
Besides built-in wireless LAN, the Xda Atom also responds quickly to productivity needs and rides the latest wave in peer-to-peer technology by giving you a panorama of other convenient connectivity features enabling top-speed data transfer, like EDGE GSM/GPRS, Bluetooth v 1.2 SIG, Infrared, mini-USB and ActiveSyncÒ.
The Xda Atom is decked out with a new range of applications, enabling improved efficiency. For instance, the Self Diagnostics utility offers a step-by-step guide for you to test and detect malfunctions and keep it in optimum health. If you're a frequent traveler, you will also love the Auto Configurator utility, which detects operator settings on individual SIM cards and configures the device accordingly. It's all plug-and-play.
"In 2003, O2 opened up the market for converged devices with the launch of the Xda, and served a customer segment that was overlooked by regular mobile phone manufacturers," said Mark Billington, CEO, O2 Asia Pacific. "Since then, we have established our presence in India, one of the fastest growing mobile handset markets in the world, with the launch of four new products.
Today, we continue to establish our technology and product leadership here by offering the Xda Atom to customers in the converged device market underserved by the 'me-too' brands that have cropped up since."
"Technology is no longer linear. You have to think in terms of what will offer users the greatest convenience converging everything they desire. You really have to mix it up, and still preserve the core capabilities of each feature and make it look beautiful at the same time. That's our customer promise," he added.
"The Xda Atom offers all the latest digital innovations in a truly sexy form factor. It is exclusive to the O2 brand, carries our unique O2 signature and meets the promise to our customers, who are upwardly mobile, in India. It is our gift to them this festive season," Billington continued.
