KLM-Northwest ushered in a new era in passenger convenience at Indian airports with the launch of their Self-service Check-in facility at Mumbai. With the launch of this new service, KLM – Northwest is hopeful that long waiting times for airport check-in will soon be a thing of the past.
The three Self -Service Check-in Machines installed by KLM – Northwest in cooperation with the Airports Authority of India at the Mumbai International Airport are user-friendly and easy to operate. All the passengers need to do is step up to one of the check-in machines, touch the screen to begin, insert their frequent flyer card, passport or credit card, select the flight number or destination and confirm their flight itinerary and check for valid documents. Passengers may pick a seat of their choice and within seconds of confirming they will get their boarding pass. If they have check-in baggage, they may drop it off at the airline’s special baggage drop-off counter for Self Service Checked-in passengers.
While the concept of Self Service Check-in machines has been popular abroad for some time now, this is the first time any airline – domestic or international - is offering this service to passengers flying out of India.
Commenting on launch Mr. Warner Rootliep, General Manager, KLM – Northwest, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka & Maldives said, “Self-Service check-in services offer passengers greater efficiency and control over the check-in process. I am really proud that we are the first to introduce the facility of Self Service Check-in Machines in India. Our experience shows that once passengers discover the ease of use offered by self-service check-in, they get hooked to it. I am confident that in the future more and more passengers in India will opt for self service check-in – via the Internet or via a check-in machine at the airport.”
With the launch of Self Service Check-in Machines, KLM – Northwest now provides its passengers a complete self-service product. Passengers departing on any KLM – Northwest flight from India having electronic tickets can check in using www.klm.com as much as 24 hours prior departure. Now passengers flying from Mumbai who have not checked in on the Internet will also have the opportunity to check themselves in at the airport by using Self Service Check-in machines.
KLM – Northwest currently offer 18 weekly flights from India including a daily flight each from Delhi and Mumbai to Amsterdam and a four times weekly flight from Hyderabad to Amsterdam. >From their hub in Amsterdam the two partner airlines offer excellent connecting flights to over 400 destinations around the world including daily flights to all major cities in Europe and North America.
