Godrej No 1 claims leadership in Grade 1 category

Godrej No.1, the flagship brand of Godrej Consumer Products Ltd., is now the largest selling Grade I Soap. Grade 1 is the highest category laid down by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The TFM (Total Fatty Matter) content is 76% (minimum) with the least number of additives, thus making it a pure soap. Godrej No.1 has a volume market share of 3.6% as per ORG-Marg data.

Mr. H.K. Press, Executive Director & President, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. said, "At Godrej we emphasize on quality. Over the last few months Godrej No.1 has been growing at a phenomenal rate to make it the largest selling Grade 1 soap brand in the country today (in volume terms). BIS, the governing body has laid down self-evaluation criteria for soaps. Primarily, the soaps are classified as toilet soaps and bathing bars in descending order. Within the toilet soaps classification, BIS has allotted three grades viz- Grade I, Grade II, Grade III. Grade I - is a category, which has minimum additives thereby, making it a skin-friendly soap.

Mr. A. Rangarajan, VP (Research) at GCPL said, " BIS has strict parameters to gauge the purity of the soaps and Godrej No.1 is the largest selling brand in the Grade I category. Internationally all soaps adhere to these norms and we are aiming that in the near future all Indian soaps would match international standards in terms of quality and purity".
