Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), a global leader in Education, announced launch of Digital Campus to enhance Students Services and Academic excellence. Mr. P. Chidambaram, honourable Finance Minister, Govt of India who inaugurated the campus has praised the efforts of MAHE in the field of education. As part of making Manipal – a Digital Campus, it has distributed 3000 laptops to students, 1500 laptops to faculty members, Wi-Fi enabled multiple locations including MAHE University building, Food Court and Hostels. It has laid more than 10Kms fibre for inter connecting the buildings spread across 5Kms. It has deployed eLearning to Medical Students. MAHE is the first University in India to deploy eLearning to Medical students as per MCI curriculum. More than 2500 medical students access eLearning system to enrich their knowledge.

MAHE has recently set up a world class Data Center to provide a reliable, 24x7 IT application services. It has digitized the admission process by implementing online admission tests and online application system with integrated payment gateway. It has implemented latest MPLS backbone to connect examination centers across India. MAHE has also digitized the business processes and students administrative services by implementing PeopleSoft ERP system. It has installed world class Video Conferencing system thru’ which live lectures are delivered from Beaumont Hospital, USA. MAHE delivers high end IT courses through multi media VSAT system to corporate like GE.

Speaking at the launch of Digital Campus, Dr. Ramdas Pai, President MAHE said, “We firmly believe in leveraging technology and systems in imparting world class education. In the first phase Wi-FI has been implemented at selected locations in Manipal. In the near future Metro Wi-Fi will be deployed to provide wireless connectivity at 35 Hostels and 24 Academic buildings thus ensuring ubiquitous high speed internet access to students. This development is a significant step in MAHE’s vision of becoming “Wireless Digital Campus”.

Dr HS Ballal, Pro Chancellor of MAHE said, “We have tied up with VSNL in enabling Wi-Fi services in the campus. Now students can experience high speed Wi-FI at the campus while sipping coffee or simply chatting with friends. The net result: they can finish off theirs assignments without losing out on quality time with friends. He said that this fresh initiative on the part of MAHE is yet another tool in the quest for knowledge and self development in a rapidly changing world”.

Mr Shashi Kalathil, Head Broadband Retail Business, VSNL who participated in the launch said, “We believe in empowering students and academia alike by offering round-the-clock connectivity. This is yet another initiative from the Tata Indicom family. Students and teachers not only get unlimited access to high-speed Wi-FI in the campus but also at all other Tata Indicom Wi-Fi hotspots offering roaming services across the country”.
