MUMBAI, September 25

Kingston Technology Company, Inc., announced the launch of 1-GB microSD expansion memory cards to further enhance its growing line of mobile memory solutions. The increased capacity and format is essential for users of current and next-generation multifunction mobile phones that require more memory to support advanced features including MP3 players, video, higher-resolution cameras and mobile gaming.

“The microSD form factor is becoming increasingly popular as new mobile phone handsets reduce in size and increase in functionality,” said Scott Chen, Vice President, APAC Business Development, Kingston. “With new 1-GB capacities, consumers can efficiently manage more— from address books, photos and data files to multiple ringtones, video, music and beyond,” continued Chen.

According to Nicole D’Onofrio, Industry Analyst, Mobile Computing and Storage, “Current analysis expects to see strong growth in the microSD market, as mobile handset consumers are demanding increased storage capacities for their mobile content, coupled with slim and sexy phone designs.”

Content-on-Card Services

For digital entertainment publishers and software developers seeking additional value from releasing their content on new media, Kingston offers complete content-on-card services, including custom content loading, packaging and logistics. The new 1-GB microSD card joins the Flash memory product group available for specialized digital content services.

Kingston microSD cards ship bundled with a Secure Digital (SD) adapter for use as a full-size SD card. To protect against accidental data loss, the adapter has a built-in write-protect switch. The new 1-GB capacity card joins the 512-MB and 256-MB cards. Larger capacities will continue to follow as mobile device and content needs dictate.
