Vijay TV’s recent launches Madurai, Garnier Fructis Jodi No.1 – Season 2 and Hutch Kalaka Povathu Champions 3 impress

Week 31 was a great week for Vijay TV as its launches scored high on the rating chart.

Keeping up with its trend of providing differentiated content to the Tamil audiences; Vijay launched Madurai; a fiction series on July 30, 2007; which was chosen as the winner from the 8.30 Maniku Enna paarkalam program. The serial shot completely in the city of Madurai is a story about the emotions of people from madurai. The plot set in the heartland of Tamilnadu with its cinematography and high production values has appealed to the audiences as the show averaged a TVR of 3.5 in the opening week (source TAM: Chennai, ABC 15+F; Mon-Thu 2030-2100hrs).

The second season of the dance-reality show -Jodi No.1; which launched on August 3, 2007 with TV celebrities garnered an average of 8.0 TVRs (Chennai, ABC 15+F; Fri-Sat 2000-2100hrs) and shares of 23.8% (Chennai, ABC 4+; Fri-Sat 2000-2100hrs). With the competition yet to begin, the show with 8 popular Television celebrity couples promises to be a delight to the audiences.

Also, laughing its way up the rating charts, Hutch Kalaka Povathu Champions 3, the standup comedy sensation which launched on August 3 also performed well scoring 4.8 TVRs with shares of 22.3% in the weekend band (source tam: Chennai, ABC 4+; Fri 2200-2300hrs). The show which is now in its third edition has SVee Sekhar and Uma Riyaz as the judges; while the best of the talent from the earlier editions lineup to entertain.

In the fiction space, continuing to impress on the rating charts, is the story of adolescence told brilliantly in Kanaa Kaanum Kaalangal. The serial which launched as a whiff of fresh air amidst sobbing operas has a huge fan following. Following the death of one of the leading characters; new students were introduced in class 11. The show boasts an average channel share of 31.3% in the past 4 weeks (Wk 28-31; Chennai; ABC 15+F; Mon-Thu 2000-2030hrs) beating competition KTV (6.8), Jaya TV (3.3) and Raj TV(0.6) in the same time band , emerging a clear No. 2.

With the new launches, Vijay has strengthened its Weekday prime ; Channel shares stand at 10.2% in Chennai as against KTV’s 9.5%, Jaya’s 1.9% and Raj’s 1.4% (Source: Wk28-31; Chennai; ABC 4+; Mon-Fri 1830-2300hrs)
