Nickelodeon's digital channel Nicktoons has tied up with the US-based Frederator Studios, which makes cartoons for television and the movies and Animation Magazine, a trade publication devoted to the coverage of the business, technology and art of animation, for the Nicktoons Film Festival. This development was confirmed by Keith Dawkins, Vice President and General Manager, Nicktoons.

Nicktoons Film Festival would be the first on-air festival of its kind and will showcase the diversity of independent cartoon film making by animators across the globe.

Among the organisers, Fred Seibert, president of Frederator Studios will serve as executive producer of the festival. Rita Street, publisher of Animation Magazine and Eric Homan, Vice President of Creative Affairs for Frederator Studios will be the Festival Producers. Christina Vann of Nicktoons will serve as Executive in Charge of Production.

Dawkins, said, "There's so much great talent in the world of animation and we're excited to give people the opportunity to have their work seen by experts and on Nicktoons' air," "Nicktoons is the place to be for animation lovers, which is why we're forming a sort of 'creative lab' for a new generation of cartoon hits, " he added.

Animators from around the world can download entry forms on www.nicktoons.com and entries will be accepted through Sept. 10. Submissions should be animated shorts no longer than 7 minutes that combine a unique look, great character designs and a funny plot. A selection of shorts chosen by a pre-selection jury will broadcast on Nicktoons, as part of a 13-episode compilation series launching this fall.

One winner will be chosen among the participants by a grand jury and awarded a $10,000 prize.
