The second instalment of Spider-Man, which debuted on July 23, garnered business worth Rs 2.3-crore on the opening day, say officials from Columbia TriStar Films of India. This is largest opening day tally for any foreign-language film in India, with the blockbuster smashing records on the first weekend with a total business of Rs 7.8-crore, which is 46.5 per cent more than its predecessor Spider-Man.
Spider-Man 2 had the largest single day gross for any foreign-language film in the country, with the movie registering ticket sales worth Rs 2.7-crore on July 25.
The film had the biggest release in recent times with 303 prints showcased across 327 screens in the country.
An aggressive 360-degree marketing campaign was kicked-off by Columbia to build hype and generate interest for the property. Brands such as Airtel, Sony Electronics, Sony Erickson, Kellogg's and Mirinda associated with the movie in a big way to "feed off its equity".
The movie is anticipated to emerge as the second largest grosser of all times, the first being Titanic. So lets hope it touches that milestone as well.
