‘Zindagi LIVE’, the award winning talk show on IBN7, addresses the plight of dwarfs and the social discrimination being faced by them in a special episode scheduled to go on-air this Sunday, January 11th ‘09 at 8 PM. The episode will encapsulate the trails and tribulation of few Bollywood dwarf artists like as Lilliput, KK Goswami and Chotu dada among others who have struggled throughout their lives to create an identity of their own.
The show host Richa Anirudh discusses the agony of dwarfs and the inhumane treatment given to them from the society. The dwarf guests present on the show share their experience on the discrimination being faced by them because of their unnatural height and how they have become the victim of bullying and endless suffering in the day to day life.
Lilliput, the famous Film and TV artist present on the show said, “Our short height reduces the social and matrimonial opportunity in the society and we have become an element of fun for others. But people should try and understand our emotions and let us lead a normal life. I even tried to commit suicide, but my mother’s encouraging words stopped me from doing so.”
Similarly, Chotu dada, the 65 year old artist who has worked in over 200 films, expressed his grief on his miserable life because of dwarfism. People sympathise with their inabilities but do not show affection. Despite being married, Chotu Dada could not gather enough courage to have a child of his own fearing that the child might be a dwarf too and the similar consequences the child might have to face in future.
Another famous TV artist, K K Goswami requests the government to grant him the permission for “iksha-mrityu” – death at one’s will, as a result of the frustration and rejection from the society.
