This August witness the absence of subordination, servitude and constraint as NDTV Lumière salutes the very passion of free will and sovereignty with 'Experience Freedom': showcasing some of the finest world class movies from around the globe. Let us pay tribute to the sacrifice, humanity and courage gone in every war of freedom.
Experience Freedom begins with acclaimed director Christophe de Ponfilly's final film before his suicide in 2006 'The Soldier’s Star – a moving tale about a journalist who returns to Afghanistan to investigate the murder of his friend’s captors, a few days before 9/11. Watch Gabriel Le Bomin’s stirring drama about the horrors of war in ‘Antonin's Stories’. Antonin (Grégori Derangère), a messenger during the First World War, seems traumatized beyond cure by his war experiences. Reduced to a trembling wreck he says nothing except five names he endlessly repeats and five gestures he obsessively makes.
Using tragedy and gentle humour to expose the persecution of the Kurds in the 1980s is Director Hiner Saleem in ‘Kilometre Zero’. A surrealistic portrait of life in Iraq under Saddam, Kilometre Zero was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 2005 Festival de Cannes. Don’t miss out on Louis Malle’s semi-autobiographical story of friendship and betrayal during World War II in 'Goodbye Children'.
So watch some the heart-wrenching movies which are sure to make you realize about the life we take for granted only on NDTV Lumière, every Thursday At 10 p.m.
