Live action show ‘Hero’ premieres on Hungama TV

Media release, May 28, 2005

New Delhi

You don’t have to be Superman to be able to change the world! Make way for Hero — Joy, the boy-next-door who saves the day as he transforms into a super hero. Premiering this Monday, May 30th, from the UTV stable, ‘Hero’ will be a live action show to be aired on Hungama TV every Monday - Thursday at 7.30 pm.

Hero is a live action fantasy about the heroic deeds and adventures of an ordinary boy Joy, who is bestowed with out-of-this-world magical powers by the Goddess Durga to help him fight the arch-villain Viraat. His two beloved toys Dholu and Bubbli also transform into hilarious characters.

“Hero has strong emotional appeal and Indian values, which along with the fantasy and comedy elements should make a great viewing experience for kids. Our research shows that kids enjoy the theme of ‘Good winning over evil’ and the struggle that follows. This also ties in with our new animation shows Sonic X and Doraemon, which have the same theme.” says Zarina Mehta, Head of Programming, Hungama TV. She further adds; “Hungama TV offers excellent mix pf programming that includes animation, live action and game shows that has been tailor made keeping in mind individual viewing tastes of kids across different age groups. This was possible only because of extensive research undertaken within Hungama TV and the feedback we receive on every aspect of the channel from our kids board of directors - comprising 20 Hungama Captains aged from 4-14 years from across the country - which is valuable and encouraging for the channel.”

Created by Arif Ali of UTV and directed by Waseem Sabir, the series stars Sumeet Pathak (of Tum Ko Na Bhool Paayenge, Baazigar and Tarzan fame) as Hero.

Besides, kids get an exciting opportunity to be a ‘Hero’. All that the kid has to do is participate in the ‘Be A Hero Contest’ by watching Hero at 7.30 pm from Mon-Thur and tell us about any exciting adventure that he/she may have experienced in his/her life in 100 words. The lucky winner will get to come to Mumbai and star in an episode of Hero, only on Hungama TV!

Hungama TV’s ‘Hero’ is just another addition to the bouquet of shows launched for kids this summer. Adventure-packed animations Sonic X – the globally successful series of a superhero hedgehog premiered on the channel on May 2nd along with another internationally acclaimed animation series ‘Doraemon’ and ‘Arthur’. Further, weekends have got better on Hungama TV that brings a bag of internationally acclaimed and Indian movies that make for great family viewing.

Also not to forget, as a part of its strategy to consistently provide kids with a slew of surprises, Hungama TV’s ‘Holiday Hungama’ saw the popular gully cricket gameshow ‘Full Toss’, where kids get to play the game with their favourite cricketers, on ground. Called the ‘Full Toss Cricket Hungama Series’ it was played across 10 cities culminating into a mega final that was held in Mumbai on May 15th.

An extensive nation-wide media campaign for Hero would also be underway from May 27th, 2005.
