The agitation against popular Malayalam channels, Asianet and Asianet Plus, by a few cable operators in Kerala is not justifiable as per Channel authorities.

All consumers pay a fixed amount of monthly subscription fees to view all leading TV channels. Asianet and Asianet Plus spend crores of rupees to produce and transmit top quality entertainment programs with advanced technology. In order to meet growing expenses and to have a stable source of income Asianet and Asianet Plus are charging a mere 50 paise per day per subscriber (Rs 15 per month).

Channel authorities have held numerous discussions with cable TV operators and their associations to arrive at a negotiated settlement. However a few cable TV operators have not signed agreements resulting in Asianet and Asianet Plus not being received by some consumers in Kerala. Channel authorities are very concerned about the non-availability of Asianet and Asianet Plus to consumers due to actions taken by some cable TV operators in violation of the rules safeguarding consumer rights by the Central Government's authority Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

Majority of cable TV operators in Kerala have negotiated and signed agreements thereby ensuring uninterrupted viewing of Asianet and Asianet Plus by their consumers. We are genuinely interested in coming to settlement with cable operators to work out an amicable solution what would be acceptable to all affected parties.
