On the occasion of Onam , starting August 14--21, Amrita TV will be airing 25 new programs exclusively created for the festival of festivals; along with telecast of 16 Mega chartbuster movies. To cater to the varying tastes of a cross-section of audiences, Amrita TV's Onam content has been created on themes which capture all the facets of the festival. The program themes are Festival of Movies, Festival of Celebrities, Festival of Music, Festival of Fun & Feast and Festival of Heritage.
In the Movie Festival section Amrita TV will be holding a World TV Premiere of 5 multi-starrer movies on the main Onam days. These include two movies on Thiruvonam Day (August 23)Kerala Café , the first Malayalam anthology featuring the films of 10 eminent directors at 9.00am;as also the chartbuster Chattambinadu, starring Mammootty and Lekshmi Rai at 2.00pm. On August 22, Amrita TV will premiere the Siddique directed Bodyguard at 2.00pm featuring Dileep & Nayantara and Mission 90 Days which has Mammootty in the lead at 9.00am.
Avittom on August 24 will be celebrated with the world premiere of Thoovalkattu pairing Manoj K Jayan & Lakshmi Gopalaswamy at 9.00 am; the day will also air Ritu at 2pm. Pathaamadhyam at 9 am and Hallo on the dot of 2pm on August 25 will round up the Onam movie extravaganza.
The Festival of Music theme comprises of programs such as The Touch transmitted from 16- 20 August at 8pm has celebrity singers trying to pitch it right with Amrita TV reality stars; the stars of our favourite TV serials who drop in everyday into our drawing rooms, match their singing talents in an Antakshari at 9.30pm from 16-20th ; Sravana Smrithikal, a melodious collection of the most memorable light music inspired by the festival of Onam, written and set to music by well known lyricists and composers will be beamed at 6.30pm on the 21st , topping with Avani Ponnunjal,a sentimental musical journey into the land of undying Onam melodies rendered by the golden voices from yesterday scheduled for 8.30 pm spot on the 23rd, 24th and 25th.
The Festival of Fun& Feast theme programs reflect the diversity of the festival -Campus Onakkalam that goes on air from the 15th -21st at 5pm, captures the festive gaiety of Onam in premiere colleges across the heartland of Kerala where current students join hands with its alumni, to decorate its grounds; Swatherum Oname Swagathem, in which famous culinary kings of Kerala reveal to Raj Kalesh their Onam specials is a tempting array of dishes that trace delicious patterns of flavours on the tongue at 1.30 noon from 14-21; Ona Sadya Ugran at 1.30 pm from the 22nd -25th shares the famed Ona Sadya , a tapestry of rich aromas and delicious hues with the mega stars of the silver screen ; Chiriyude Vazhiye, at 8 pm on the 23nd ,24th and 25th ,a chronicle of the evolution of mimicry from Siddique Lal to Suraj Venjaramoodu traces its 25 year history.
The Festival of Heritage theme highlights the essence of Onam which is now forgotten –Uthraadapulari on the 22nd at 6.30am welcomes the 1st day of Onam with wistful memories of past years while awaiting the arrival of Mahabali; Thiruvonathiruvettam on the 23rd at 6.30am in which ties of familial love are re-affirmed as kith and kin from far and wide come together to partake of the famed Onam feast; Avittappakittu continues to celebrate the spirit of Onam even as Mahabali returns after his annual visit at 6.30am on 24th ; as another festival winds up, Chatayachandam journeys through the ancient fables and tales associated with it at 6.30am on the 25th ; Kalashetrangal a tour of the major temples, the fountainheads of art and cradle of every traditional instrument with Mattanur, Kuttan Marar etc , to pay homage to our glorious heritage at 8.10 am fro 22-25.
The Festival of Celebrities theme , a journey into the perspectives of noted personalities - Thaarathilakkam, a tete –a tete with super stars Mammootty, Mohanlal and Dileep adds more luster to our celebrations on the 22nd, 23rd,24th and 25th at 9 pm ; Thanka Thamizh Tharam presents a bouquet of tamil stars to embellish our Onam with the fragrance of their visual experience at 8.30pm from the 16-20 ; Shree at 4.30pm from 14-21 spends a day in the company of exceptional women, spouses of eminent celebrities who shed the light of love and care over their husband's lives ; from 22-25, at 1 pm Rasikan, a get together of star fan clubs and their heroes enumerate why they worship these demigods ; Virunnu in which the who is who of Malayalam films revisit the haunts of their campus days to take a trip down the avenues of their memory at 6.30 pm on 22-25 ; Lights! Camera! Aghosham!! go to film sets to record how stars and technicians who cannot return for Onam, capture its spirit on their locations at 7pm from 22-25 ; Onam-aste ! showcases stars from other languages conveying their Onam greetings to Malyali viewers at 7.30pm from 23-25.
