Following the huge success of the Amar Chitra Katha series on Cartoon Network, India's number one kids channel is once again partnering with India's leading comic book publisher, ACK Media, to launch their first animation feature, Tripura.

Premiering on Cartoon Network on Sunday, 30 January at 12:00pm, Tripura will be available in Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu.

Translating the magic of the legendary tale and comic book, Tripura is an animation feature full of action and special effects of mythological proportions that is set to keep kids and the entire family glued to Cartoon Network.

"In 2009 we entered a strategic partnership with ACK Media to bring the entertainer of generations, the tales of Amar Chitra Katha, to life on Cartoon Network," said Monica Tata, Vice President and Deputy General Manager - Entertainment Networks, South Asia, Turner International India Private Limited.

"The response to the series from viewers was overwhelming, so we are excited to be able to deliver more of the eternal magic of Amar Chitra Katha in an animation feature that is sure to delight viewers of all ages" added Monica.

Samir Patil, Chief Executive Officer, ACK Media, said: "We are very excited about the launch of Tripura with Cartoon Network. This is a result of long partnership with Cartoon Network in reinventing Amar Chitra Katha for today's audience in an animation avatar. Tripura is especially important for us because we have created a nuanced tale that we hope can keep both parents and kids interested, we have developed a new look that evolves the classic ACK style and also because it is the first of the many ACK films that we will be creating with Cartoon Network."

Cartoon Network values the importance of strong, local content. The Network's "Desi Toon" strategy focuses on promoting and developing homegrown animation and has been a runaway success on both Cartoon Network and sister channel, POGO, for more than 15 years.

The epic Tripura begins after the death of King Taraka, at the hands of the Devas, sends the Asuras fleeing from their kingdoms, into hiding. Determined to provide a safe haven for them, the Great Asura architect Maya draws on his vast powers of sorcery to build three magnificent airborne cities, named Tripura, each to be ruled over by one of Taraka's three sons. The cities are indestructible, only able to be destroyed by the one and only Lord Shiva, the Destroyer.

Soon enough the Asura kings begin craving greater power. Unknown to Maya, they plan a secret invasion of the Kingdom of the Devas. Now Indra the King, faces a formidable challenge - defeating an enemy who is protected by the Gods themselves.
