Reliance Broadcast Network Limited (RBNIL) 92.7 BIG FM held a star studded award ceremony at Bengaluru's Ambedkar Bhavan on March 23, 2011 to honour achievers from Karnataka state. The BIG Kannada Entertainment Awards is a pioneering effort by RBNIL to create a unique platform to honor entertainment across genres, movies, music, television, dance, theatre and Sports.
The star studded Big Kannada entertainment Awards will be telecasted on the Ugadi, 4th April, on ETV Kannada offering a whole new entertainment to people around the Kannada New Year.
92.7 BIG FM Radio Operations Head - South, Mr. Ramesh Bhaskar said ''When Karnataka looks for entertainment; we turn to our world of entertainers across movies, music, television, dance, theatre & sports. It's amongst these entertainers that we seek to spend our time to relax, unwind and get entertained. As Bangalore's No.1 entertainer, 92.7 BIG FM created this platform to celebrate excellence across genres in a first of its kind initiative across any media brand in the state. This was truly a people's choice award wherein the listeners got to choose the winners in the 'popular category'. We had eminent jury members drawn across from the fields of art & entertainment that stands testimony of the rigor in the selection process."
Amid performances from some of the top names in the state, BIG Kannada Entertainment Awards where trophies were awarded to entertainers from diverse genres. The evening was hosted by the Radio Jockeys from BIG 92.7 FM Bengaluru who kept the audience enthralled with their witty and informative intros. For the first time ever actor Uppendra and actor Puneet shared the same stage and sang a melodious song for the audience. Music Director Gurukiran and his team pumped up the enthusiasm of the audience by their performance of catchy numbers. Other streaming performances were performed by actress Niddhi Subbaiah, singer Chaithra, actress Haripriya, actor Yogesh aka Yogi who performed live for the audiences.
The list of attendees included the who's-who from Karnataka - Kannada Film greats Puneeth, Upendra, Female actors Radhika Pandit, Ragini Dwivedi and Nidhi Subbaih; Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari; one of the longest serving theater personalities in Karnataka- Param Shivam; Billiards and Snooker World Champion Pankaj Advani; Swimming Champ Rehaan Poncha; Government Officer I M Vithalla Murthy; Music record label owner Mohan Chhabria; Top Director Yograj Bhatt; among others.
Theatre personalities were the first to be awarded - with B Jayashree receiving the award in the category the most entertaining theatre personality -male/female. The most entertaining theatre group award was won by Ninasam.
Danseuse Anuradha Sridhar and danseur Sridhar, the well known dancing couple won the award of entertainer's award in the field of classical dance.
Snooker and Billiards World Champion Pankaj Arjan Advani was bestowed the award in category of most entertaining sports personality for his achievements in sports. Said Pankaj Advani, "I think it is a great concept, I have won many awards for my accomplishments but not for entertainment. In these highly stressful times, people want to be entertained and as a sports person I am glad I can do it."
Among the major celebrity awardees were Dr. S.P. Balasubramanyam - BIG Most Entertaining TV Host of the Year (ETV); Mandya Ramesh who plays Parashuram in Zee Kannada's soap 'Chi Swo Savitri' ; BIG Most Entertaining TV Actor of the Year- Male; Lakshmi Hegde from Suvarna's historical soap 'Guru Raghavendra Vaibhava' BIG Most Entertaining TV Actor of the Year- Female; Yograj Bhat as the BIG Most Entertaining Lyricist of the Year for 'Ekka Raja Rani'; Harikrishna was awarded BIG most entertaining music director of the year for 'Jackie'"; Upendra for 'Super' and Yograj Bhat for 'Pancharangi', won the BIG Most Entertaining Director of the Year award.
92.7 BIG FM had successfully lined up a variety of content in an effort to offer fresh entertainment. The awards will be telecasted on ETV Kannada. The prestigious awards had Guinea Lite as presenting sponsor & Reliance Mobile has come on board as "powered by" sponsor.
