Animal Planet announces a stimulating array of programmes focussing on unexplored interactions between human and animals. Launching seven new series in this quarter, the informative and engaging programming slate focuses on celebrating and protecting the natural world. For the first time ever, Animal Planet will give viewers an exclusive peek into heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson's unexplored love for breeding and raising pigeons through its mega-series TAKING ON TYSON.
The gripping line up of series and specials on Animal Planet includes: TAKING ON TYSON, FATAL ATTRACTIONS, WEIRD CREATURES WITH NICK BAKER, 100 HEARTBEATS WITH JEFF CORWIN, WILDEST AFRICA, EXPEDITON WILD and HUMAN PREY.
Taking an unprecedented access into the life of boxing champion Mike Tyson, TAKING ON TYSON will reveal this complex man as never seen before. The birds have been an integral part of his life from his childhood. In fact, Tyson threw his first punch when a neighborhood bully killed one of his beloved pigeons and threw it in his face. Tyson became one of the most famous, and infamous, champions in boxing (and sports) history. And through it all, his pigeons and his rooftop pigeon coops remained his one constant and secret solace.
Rahul Johri, senior vice president and general manager - India, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific said, "Animal Planet, in its new programming line-up will connect viewers to the natural world through captivating characters and stories that inform, entertain and celebrate animals and the relationships that humans have with them. Passionate personalities and experts will give audiences an unprecedented and immersive look at the intersection between human nature and animal instinct. For example, Taking On Tyson is an enriching window into Mike Tyson's complex life, where the road to self-awareness, the path to inner peace and the vision into the future is with the birds that have played a big part in his life."
Animal Planet's adventurous presenter Nick Baker will take viewers to some of the most inhospitable corners on Earth to find the ugliest, slimiest and oddest creatures in WEIRD CREATURES WITH NICK BAKER. The series will air every Thursday at 9 pm, starting May 26th.
In a special programme 100 HEARTBEATS, biologist and conservationist Jeff Corwin will look at the critically endangered animals and examine what is being done to save them. In search of polar and panda bears, Florida panthers and Bengal tigers, Corwin will hop the globe discussing a range of land and sea animals in immediate danger, but also the people who live among them and work for their preservation. The programme will air on Sunday, June 5th at 9 pm.
Animal Planet's FATAL ATTRACTIONS will examine the most extraordinary pet attacks of recent years - incidents in which people living with tigers, wolf-dogs and snakes suddenly become their prey. It will delve deep into the psychological and emotional drivers that make some people get too close to animals that are best left in the wild. The series premieres every Wednesday at 8 pm, starting April 6th.
This April, experience the staggering beauty of one of the most incredible, beautiful and exciting places on Earth in Animal Planet's WILDEST AFRICA, to air every Tuesday at 10 pm. This landmark series will traverse the vast deserts, dense jungles and undulating mountain ranges to capture the awe-inspiring cinematic range of this scenic and culturally rich country.
From Great White sharks to grizzly bears, coyotes to crocodiles, witness incredible tales of those who have narrowly escaped the claws and jaws of death. HUMAN PREY will bring viewers the amazing stories of those who have been attacked, and how they managed to survive despite the odds. See what happens in situations where humans have to defend themselves against an attack. The series will air every Sunday at 8 pm, starting April 3rd.
