The law enforcement officials in Dallas and surrounding areas in an unprecedented move raided multiple local businesses involved in piracy of copyrighted material. UTV Motion Pictures along with other distributors collaborated with Government agencies and local authorities to help curb this growing illegal activity.
Law enforcement agencies have been receiving reports and investigating a network in and around Dallas Fort Worth area that has been actively involved in piracy of copyrighted material.
According to the Police report over 3200 pirated DVDs were recovered from the two locations. More than 48 DVD burners and other equipment used to make copies of Hindi motion pictures were also confiscated.
Felony charges were filed against the store owner of these establishments. The charges arise out of the unauthorized possession, production and sale of pirated copyrighted material. The arrested individuals are however reported to be co-operating with police in leading them to other sources and members of this illegal network. "We are extremely serious about fighting theft of UTV copyrighted content. This raid is one of many that we are planning to have in North America," said Lokesh Dhar, Senior VP. Motion Pictures- UTV (USA).
Authorities in multiple Texas cities plan to continue similar raids without break, until the market is free of this criminal activity. Police investigation indicates that it is a larger problem than initially estimated and they are committed to take more elaborate steps in order to completely eradicate the problem.
Bollywood movie distributors and exhibitors have unanimously praised the efforts of UTV and the law enforcement agencies for their extraordinary efforts in conducting the investigation and making the arrests and have reassured the authorities that they will assist in the investigation and provide them with information and contacts that would be invaluable for making further arrests.
