CNN Chief Business Correspondent Ali Velshi is to co-anchor the Asia primetime evening edition of ‘World Business Today’, the network’s daily global business news program. Based in New York, Velshi will provide business reporting and analysis for the show, interpreting and explaining the top stories of the day alongside the program’s Hong Kong-based business specialist Andrew Stevens, Nina dos Santos in London and business correspondent Maggie Lake.
Beginning in January 2012, Velshi's new role will allow him to assess the top economic, global or political headlines and deconstruct and translate them for the network’s viewers in more than 200 countries. Drawing upon his global business news experience, he breaks down some of the most complex compelling and important issues of our time.
CNN International Executive Vice President and Managing Director Tony Maddox said, “With new economic superpowers emerging across different continents, Ali brings the right mix of curiosity and business news experience to play a prominent role in reporting these crucial stories to CNN Worldwide’s global audience.”
Trusted for his hallmark explanations of complicated issues during the financial crisis and during times of political and economic uncertainty, Velshi will expand his role as a decoder of political and economic issues:
“I’m looking forward to the daily intellectual exercise of taking the most important and intricate issues, breaking them down and providing the context necessary to help the CNN viewer make the smartest decisions they can,” said Velshi.
Velshi is the co-author of “How To Speak Money,” which released on November 8, 2011; and author of “Gimme My Money Back,” which released in January 2009.
