BloombergUTV, India’s premier business news channel, along with Reliance Broadcast Network Ltd. (RBNL) and IMS Foundation (IMSF), on Friday, hosted a curtain raiser event to announce the second edition of the biennial INDIA MANUFACTURING SHOW 2012 (IMS 2012).
Hon’ble Karnataka Chief Minister, Shri. D V Sadananda Gowda, while speaking on the occasion said, “The small and medium industries along with large industries contribute significantly to this socio economic development of the country by way of employment generation and revenue contribution to the exchequer. It is the vision of my Government to make Karnataka the Asian epicenter of Engineering Manufacturing in the Aerospace, Automotive, Energy and Infrastructure sectors.”
The IMS 2012, to be held from September 27 – 30, 2012 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, is supported by the Govt. of Karnataka; Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Govt. of India; Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India; Ministry of Coal, Govt. of India; Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Industries, Govt. of India and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
The prime objective of the IMS is to promote Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and to provide a platform for them to interact with Large Public Sector Industries / Private Sector Industries / Industrialists / Business leaders / Customers from India and abroad for an overall development of Industrial sector in India. The exhibition will prove to be complementary to the Government’s initiative in inviting foreign investments as the exhibitors / participants will be from India and the rest from other countries.
The added advantage during IMS2012, will be the opportunity to interact with some of the best Global & Indian OEM's who come to India for vendor development and also the opportunity to exhibit along with participants at the Electronics, Machinery, Mold and Auto Parts (EMMA) Expo 2012 which will be held concurrently.
Shri Murugesh Nirani, Hon’ble Minister for Large & Medium Scale Industries, Govt. of Karnataka speaking on the occasion said, “The B2B meetings and Technical seminars at IMS will be tremendous boost to the quality of industries to make them more competent and robust in this highly competitive marketplace. This event will help all industries in terms of improving their knowledge and best practices. I wish the IMS great success for IMS 2012.”
Mr. Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the IMS 2012 Advisory Committee and Vice-Chairman & Managing Director – Mahindra & Mahindra, in a recorded message said, “The timing of the IMS 2012 is just right because I think India is on the threshold of a new era in manufacturing. The manufacturing policy adopted in last October will give manufacturing the focus it deserves after all it is the only missing piece in India’s growth story.”
Shri H V S Krishna, Chairman Organising Committee – IMS 2012, in his welcome address said, “We would like to thank Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri D V Sadananda Gowda and his team for their guidance, whole hearted support and cooperation. IMS aims to impact and bring in a positive change in the businesses of Engineering Manufacturing Industries across the length and the breadth of the country.”
IMS Foundation is a single largest collaborative platform of all Indian and Global manufacturing, engineering and other ancillary industries. The Foundation conducts seminars, workshops, Training Programs, study circle meetings, leadership camps, symposia & lectures on various topics of national importance particularly relevant to advancement of skills, quality and efficiency in industries and entrepreneurship.
Mr. Baba Kalyani, Co-Chairman of the IMS 2012 Advisory Committee and CMD – Bharat Forge Ltd., speaking on the occasion said, “The manufacturing policy speaks about India’s manufacturing sector contributing 25% to the GDP by the year 2022. The sector has the ability to do that but we need to ensure that the processes to set-up industries are simplified. We face too many barriers and road blocks e.g. land acquisition, connectivity, number of clearances and permissions, etc. The IMS 2012 is the first step in the direction to smoothen these processes. It is a unique partnership between the Government and the industry that will propel these changes and drive the sector forward.”
Mini Menon, Senior Executive Editor, BloombergUTV, moderated a panel discussion on the subject, ‘It’s Time For MADE BY INDIA’. The panel comprised of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri D V Sadananda Gowda, Hon’ble Minister Shri Murugesh Nirani and Mr. Baba Kalyani.
The panel discussed looked at how manufacturing can help transform India and make it emerge as one of the biggest economies of the world; what are the lessons to be learnt from successful manufacturing hubs like Germany and Japan and successful companies like Bharat Forge; How can the vast mass of SMEs in India gear up for the rapidly growing economy and the demands it places; How the governments new Manufacturing policy can transform the sector; What are the challenges and opportunities ahead and specific questions on how state governments like Karnataka can play a role in encouraging manufacturing.
The event was attended by a host industry captains, senior State Government officials from Bengaluru and neighbouring districts.
