History TV18 & CNN IBN begin search for 'The Greatest Indian'

Who is the Greatest Indian and what does it take to be called ‘Great’? With these questions History TV18 & CNN IBN plan to trigger a national debate through a path breaking initiative called “The Greatest Indian” .The show format is based on a ground breaking series featured on BBC called ‘The Greatest Briton’. Launched in 2002 in the UK, the initiative reached out to millions of viewers and broke significant viewership records there. An astounding 21 countries have successfully adopted this format since then, and it now promises to create History here in India too!

The first phase of initiative would comprise of an eminent jury selecting some of the Greatest Indians who have shaped the nation. The jury comprises of distinguished Indians representing all walks of life includes N. Ram (former Editor-In-Chief of The Hindu), Vinod Mehta (Editor-in-Chief of Outlook), Soli Sorabjee (Former Attorney General of India), Sharmila Tagore (Bollywood actress & former Chairperson of the Censor Board of India), Harsha Bhogle (sports), Chetan Bhagat (author) among others.

The jury would be entrusted the daunting task of limiting the poll-list to 50 Great Indians out of a preeminent list of such 100 super achievers. The list of 50 will then be released for a nationwide poll curtain raiser on 4th July by CNN IBN Editor in Chief Rajdeep Sardesai.
