Sugata Srinivasaraju has been appointed as Editorial Director of Asianet News Network Pvt Ltd (ANNPL) and will head editorial functions of the news brands Kannada Prabha, a respected Kannada daily and Suvarna 24X7, a leading Kannada news channel and will lead the future news ventures / forays of the Group. Prior to joining ANNPL, Sugata was the Chief Editor at the Vijay Karnataka (of the Times Group) in Bangalore.
Sugata brings to ANNPL wealth of experience and editorial leadership of more than 18 years including working as a Senior Associate Editor with Outlook, News Editor at the Hindustan Times and for Deccan Herald. He has contributed to the Irish Times.
Besides being a respected journalist, Sugata is an accomplished writer and translator. A writer in English and Kannada, Sugata has authored books that include Phoenix and Four other Mines which won the Karnataka academy of letters translation prize, Keeping Faith with the Mother Tongue - The Anxieties of a local culture, Pickles from Home – The Worlds of a Bilingual among others. He is a British Chevening Scholar and an ILI Fellow of the prestigious Aspen Institute in Colarado
Responding to his appointment, Sugata said he will harness the opportunity to build one of the finest convergence newsrooms in the country and added “at a time when the business of news is undergoing a never-seen-before transformation, to ensure that our eyes are not taken off the enshrined values of journalism will be a pristine task for me.”
