vdonxt asia, India's first-of-its-kind convention on the ever-growing business of digital video, took place on January 12-13, 2017, in Mumbai, at Westin Hotel at Goregaon. The event was a grand success. Over 350 delegates attended the two-day convention, complete with deep, strategic sessions, exhibitions, awards and master-classes.
At vdonxt asia, delegates were treated to priceless knowledge covering a range of topics including digital video consumption trends, the scope of different genres within online video, digital video technology, and advertising versus subscription models, to name a few. They also got the opportunity to glean valuable tips on how brands can optimise digital video integration and create content that’s inherently share-worthy.
At vdonxt asia, EY presented a special report on The State of Digital Video. This EY-vdonxt Report is titled 'Digital Opportunity: Indian Media and Entertainment'.
The vdonxt awards were held on January 12 at a glittering ceremony. The awards for the best work were in two categories –
1. 'Brand Video', that is, creative use of digital video as part of a brand campaign. This category was open only to films that were created only for digital or were digital-first.
2. 'Brand Integration', that is, Web Series, where the brand has been woven seamlessly, yet memorably into a multi-part video story.
Six Pack Band and Bang Baaja Baaraat won Gold awards in the 'Brand Video', and 'Brand Integration-Web Series' categories, respectively.
The 'People Awards' were also in two categories -
1. 'Person of the Year-New Media', that is, a person who has made a significant contribution to the growth of the digital video business, having placed big bets on the medium, been a pioneer and approached the task in an innovative way.
2. 'Person of the year-Content Creator', that is, someone who has created standout work that has made people spend more time online, and succeeded in gaining a substantial following.
Arunabh Kumar, founder of TVF won 'Person of the Year - New Media' and comedy collective All India Bakchod (AIB) won 'Person of The Year - Content Creator'.
On winning this award, TVF's Kumar says, “It's an amazing feeling. I got my first internship through afaqs! after using afaqs! Resource to send a mail to Josy Paul."
AIB's Tanmay Bhat says, “It means a lot to me as we finally have a fancy paperweight in office that keeps reminding my writers that they have to win it every year! But yes, it reaffirms our faith in what we do.”
The short-listed entries were reviewed by jury members Ajay Kakar (Aditya Birla Group - Financial Services), Chandrasekar Radhakrishnan (Nestlé India), Rahul Kansal, (Future Consumer), Satya Raghavan (YouTube India), and Siddharth Banerjee (Vodafone).
The stellar speaker line-up of over 50 professionals in the online video business, included brand marketers, VOD/OTT players, agency executives, investors and YouTube artistes. A total of 19 sessions and 9 master-classes were held over two days.
