INTE 2003 names BBC World Best International Pay News Channel

BBC World, the BBC's commercially funded 24-hour international news and information channel, has won the prestigious award for Best International Pay TV News Channel at the INTE (Industria de la Televisión en Español) annual ceremony in Miami, Florida.

The jury, which comprised 32 senior executives from the Spanish-language television industry, recognised BBC World for its objective, high quality and in-depth news reporting. Four other channels were also nominated in this category.

Commenting on the win, Rachel Attwell, controller, BBC World, said, "BBC World is honoured to have been selected by the industry as the best channel against some stiff competition. The Latin American market is important to us and we consider this a great endorsement for the exceptionally hard work of our teams of journalists around the globe. It is their coverage and analysis of complex events which has been responsible for attracting more viewers to BBC World than ever before, particularly at a time when people are trying to make sense of our rapidly changing world."

Based in Miami, INTE aims to promote the best of Spanish language television content and talent in Latin America and around the world. Its annual awards ceremony, with 59 categories, was attended this year by nearly 700 people, including Latin American television executives, producers and journalists, and was filmed by 20 TV channels from the region.
