Law & Kenneth restructures its creative team

The agency has split its creative team into two separate groups in order to combat the growing work load

Law & Kenneth, Mumbai has reorganised its creative department. The agency has now done away with the classical pyramidal structure that exists in many agencies. Instead, it has divided the creative department into two separate groups.

Creative directors, Anand Tahilramani and Chandan Mahimkar will head the first group. While Mahimkar has recently moved in from Mudra where he was a creative group head, Tahilramani has been with the agency for the last two-and-a half years.

Mahimkar, a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) graduate from JJ Institute of Applied Arts started his career as a visualiser with Cosmos Advertising. Later, he worked for FCB Ulka and Grey. His last tenure was with Mudra.

In comparison, the second team will have newer faces. The team is headed by Gauri Dakhne, who is the creative director, and Pritam Sheppigar, the associate creative director of Law & Kenneth.

Dhakne and Sheppigar have moved from Saatchi and Saatchi and Triton, respectively. Sheppigar, a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) graduate from JJ Institute of Applied Arts started his career as a visualiser with Corner Stone. He then worked for Saatchi and Saatchi, JWT and Mudra. His last association was with Triton as associate creative director.

Anil Nair, COO, Law and Kenneth, says, “There are two primary reasons behind this restructuring. First is to increase the level of interaction between the client and senior creative people. Next is to gear up for the surge of work that has been flowing into the agency.”

He adds, “Our job is not confined to only doing the creatives, it goes beyond that. And even on creatives, the client’s expectations have increased as we have managed to do some good work in the past.”

The first team headed by Tahilramani and Mahimkar will work on brands such as Bombay Dyeing and ICICI among many others.

Meanwhile, the second group will handle clients such as Go Airways and Park Hyatt Spa resort.

The creatives of both ITC and Godrej have been divided equally among the two teams.

Nair points out, “We are also involved with a lot of international projects. Recently we assisted our London counterpart in the Turkish Tourism global pitch, where the strategy was set by Law & Kenneth, London and the creatives were done by us. We are even working on some projects with our Sweden and Paris branches. Therefore, this clear division in the Mumbai creative team will help us to leverage our business in many folds.”
