David, JWT score bronze bullets at YoungGuns, 2005

David won the awards for its WWF India and Nitco Tiles campaigns, while JWT won its award for the Levi’s Slim Jeans campaign

Indian ad agencies seem to be making their mark at international award shows lately. The YoungGuns Awards, 2005, held in Sydney, Australia, was no exception. David and JWT were the two Indian agencies that shone at the awards ceremony.

David scored two bronze bullets, one for its ‘Painted Trees’ campaign for WWF India in the ‘Maverick Media’ category (done by Amit Nandwani and Rohit Devgun from David, Delhi) and another for its radio campaign, ‘Oh Carol’, for Nitco Tiles in the ‘Radio—Over 30 Seconds’ category (created by Steven Mathias and Priya Pardiwalla, David, Mumbai). Another campaign for WWF India (also made by Nandwani and Devgun), ‘Carbon Paper’, was a finalist in the ‘Charities and Public Service—Single’ category.

From JWT, Hital Pandya, art director, JWT, Mumbai, and his copywriter, Karan Amin, bagged a bronze for their newspaper campaign, ‘Levi’s Stick Figures’, for Levi’s Slim Jeans in the ‘Print Campaign’ category. This campaign was also a finalist in the ‘Art Direction Campaigns’ category.

Pandya of JWT elaborates on the Levi’s Slim Jeans campaign, saying, “The campaign used a series of line drawings to illustrate the idea of Slim Jeans from Levi’s. The illustration style involved simple lines in blue and black, strung together to form simple, yet sensual line drawings.”

Incidentally, JWT was also the first agency from India to have ever bagged an award at the YoungGuns. Senthil Kumar, creative director, JWT, Mumbai, had earlier won a silver bullet in the ‘Radio Campaign’ category for Spice Telecom’s ‘Go Slow’ campaign in 2002-03.

Josy Paul, national chairman, David, was a member of the jury at the YoungGuns this year.

For the record, YoungGuns is the only international advertising award in the world for creatives and students under the age of 30.YoungGuns was created in 2000 with the aim of assisting the development of young creative talent through recognition of their work and the provision of various opportunities to assist their careers. YoungGuns serves as a platform for young talent to showcase their new ideas and perspectives.
