Sunil Gavaskar and Sania Mirza: eminently bankable

Gavaskar has been roped in recently by Deutsche Bank. He joins Sania Mirza, who will continue to endorse the brand

Deutsche Bank has roped in cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar to endorse its newly launched retail banking products and services in India. He joins tennis icon Sania Mirza, who was recently appointed brand ambassador for the bank.

Rainer Neske, member, group executive committee, and global head, retail banking, Deutsche Bank, explains, “Deutsche Bank has established its tradition of performance and excellence at a global level. We wanted to have this message disseminated in India by two of the country’s most accomplished global achievers. And who better than Gavaskar and Mirza, whose popularity as icons of talent, determination and success is expected to resonate with our clients and provide an impetus to our retail business in India.”

Gavaskar comments on his association with the brand, “Deutsche Bank is a respected global bank, which stands for passion and excellence. It aims to serve the financial needs of a broad cross-section of Indian society.”

Mirza, meanwhile, says she closely identifies with the bank’s philosophy and practices.

As brand ambassadors, Gavaskar and Mirza will endorse Deutsche Bank offerings through advertisements and events.

Deutsche Bank’s retail offerings in India aim to serve various segments of demanding customers, from the upcoming youth to the well-established middle-aged and senior citizens. Ajay Bimbhet, managing director and head, retail banking, Deutsche Bank, India, says, “Gavaskar and Mirza are symbols of excellence, expertise and leadership. They share our philosophy of ‘A Passion to Perform’ and we think they will connect well with our TG.”

For the record, the Deutsche Bank Group has been operating in India since 1980 with a strong presence in the businesses of global markets, global corporate finance (investment banking), global equities (equities broking), asset management, private wealth management and corporate and transaction banking.

Deutsche Bank recently launched retail banking in India. The bank’s core retail offering in the Indian market is financial planning and advisory services, which aims to help Indian customers to manage and leverage financial resources successfully in a sophisticated and structured way.
