Dentsu Marcom to launch in Ahmedabad

It is believed that the recently acquired Rasna business has made Dentsu realise the need to start operations in Gujarat. The office is likely to be fully functional by Dussehra 2006

Dentsu Marcom is all set to launch operations from Ahmedabad from next month. The office will be a full-service office and its functions will be centred into the Mumbai operations of Dentsu Marcom. It is likely to be fully functional by Dussehra 2006.

Dentsu Marcom won the influential Rasna account out of Ahmedabad earlier this month. It is believed that it is this acquisition that has motivated the start of Dentsu’s operations in Gujarat. As a market, Ahmedabad alone has grown exponentially during the last one and a half years and has a worth of around Rs 250 crore, with brands such as Zydus, Paras, Nirma and Rasna.

Commenting on the development, Sandeep Goyal, chairman, Dentsu India, says, “Rasna epitomises the entrepreneurial success of Gujarati business and is one of the few prestigious Indian brands which has many a time challenged a host of global competitors. Today, Gujarat, being a booming business hub in India, has been the prime driver in us wanting to hoist the Dentsu flag here.”

Srinivas R Bhatt has been charged with the responsibility of establishing Dentsu’s Ahmedabad operations. Bhatt will also act as advisor to the chairman. Before joining Dentsu, Bhatt headed the Alpha Gujarati and Alpha Telugu channels for Zee Telefilms. He has been associated with Mudra for over 15 years and has also led the marketing communications for some of Gujarat’s prominent brands such as Reliance, Rasna, Symphony Air Coolers, Moov, C Somabhai Tea and Dhara.

“Srinivas Bhatt has an acute understanding of the local market with respect to advertising and communication issues. His knowledge will give us the advantage of having deeper insights into market matters,” says Goyal.

Dentsu’s India operations this year are expected to cross the Rs 500 crore mark in capitalised billings, putting it in the league of the fastest growing advertising agencies in India. Dentsu will soon launch its media brand, Media Palette, in India and also play a leading role in digital communication in the days to come.
