Ogilvy enters Bangladesh through local tie-up

Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide has signed an agreement with Marka, a Bangladesh based advertising agency. It will operate there under the name Ogilvy & Mather Communications

Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide has signed an agreement with a Bangladesh based advertising agency, Marka, to put a full-fledged brand communications and advertising agency in service in that country. The majority of the shares in the new agency will be owned by O&M. The agency will operate under the name Ogilvy & Mather Communications.

The client list for the agency will include O&M’s worldwide and regional clients as well as Marka’s current clients.

Commenting on the development, Miles Young, chairman, Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific, says, “This agreement is an opportunity for us to provide our clients across South Asia with the best quality service by marrying local know-how with global resources. We have a strong network in India and we have also established fully owned operations in Pakistan. Now with a base coming up in Bangladesh, we have made our foundation for South Asia strong.”

Pratap Bose, chief executive officer, Ogilvy & Mather India, says, “With this agreement, Ogilvy will bring specialised skills into the Bangladesh market. It will provide the local clients with the benefits of solutions that they have not been conventionally used to.”

Fahima Choudhury, managing partner, Marka, remarks, “Bangladesh is already on the verge of experiencing an advertising boom. Ogilvy’s expertise, fused with our local experience, will enable us to capture the demand for comprehensive advertising in the market and provide the clients with substantial activation solutions.”
