Law & Kenneth has won the Grand Prix at the Pink Slip Awards 2007, which are India’s first awards show for excellence in creative recruitment advertising. This was for a print ad for the low-fare airline, Go Air.

The ad has been created by the agency’s creative director, Anand Tahilramani. It was aimed at pilots and used the Universal Military Alphabet to communicate to its audience.

The line in the ad said, Papa India Lima Oscar Tango Sierra Whiskey Alpha November Tango Echo Delta. In simple language, this meant: pilots wanted.

Tahilramani says, “While flying, pilots usually communicate through the Universal Military Alphabet code. Although one rarely communicates directly to pilots as a target audience, because the communication was meant only for them, we decided on using language that only they could have decoded.”

The ad also won Law & Kenneth an award in the Services category.

Bates David Enterprise won the awards in three categories, Sales & Marketing, Best Campaign of the Year and Best Employer Branding of the Year – all three for Marico.

Temple Advertising won two awards, one in the special category for Best Headline and the other in the BPO category, both for its work for Microland.

In the Banking, Finance & Infrastructure category, there was a tie between McCann-Erickson and Rasters Media Integrated for clients Met Life India Insurance and Fidelity Business Services, respectively.

The award for Best Visual was given to O&M for its work on 3 Global Services.

Three categories, IT & Telecom, Health & Pharma, and Engineering, Construction, Infrastructure & Marketing, saw no winners, as the nominated ads were not considered competitive enough.

The awards received a total of 504 entries across 12 categories, out of which only 98 were short-listed.

The awards were judged by senior industry professionals such as Prasoon Joshi, executive chairman, McCann-Erickson, India; Rakhshin Patel, senior vice-president and general manager, RMG Connect; Ravi Deshpande, chief creative officer, Contract; Adil Malia, group president, human resources, Essar Group; Rahul Welde, general manager, media services, Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL); and Sanjay Mathur, corporate human resources, Reliance Industries.
