Mphasis’ Sandeep Dhar joins Sapient as MD, India operations

Dhar will be pivotal in expanding Sapient’s globally distributed delivery marketing system in India

Sandeep Dhar, president, business process outsourcing, Mphasis, has joined Sapient as managing director, India operations. Dhar will oversee the company’s growth in India.

Dhar succeeds Soumya Banerjee, who, after seven years in this position, will return to Sapient’s North American headquarters to focus on strategic client engagements.

Dhar will report to Alan J Herrick, chief executive officer, Sapient. Herrick says that during Banerjee’s tenure, Sapient India grew to more than 3,000 people, and the agency evolved its GDD (global distributed delivery) model and won recognition as one of the best places to work in India.

“Sandeep will accelerate the expansion process of Sapient’s Indian operations. With him on board, we will further strengthen our India based capabilities,” says Herrick.

Sapient, a global services firm, enables its clients to compete, evolve and grow in an increasingly complex marketplace. The company operates two groups – Sapient Interactive and Sapient Consulting – positioned at the intersection of marketing, business and technology. Sapient Interactive provides brand and marketing strategy, award-winning creative work, web design and development and emerging media expertise. Sapient Consulting provides business and IT strategy, process and systems design, package implementation and custom development, as well as outsourcing services such as testing, maintenance and support.

Sapient launched in India in 2000 and has offices in Bangalore and Delhi. The Indian operations are a vital component of the company’s GDD model. The model helps clients achieve improved return on investment in a wide variety of engagements across the Sapient service group.

Dhar possess an expansive background in consulting, sales and financial services. He began his career with NIIT as a sales executive. He moved to Citibank, where he spent eight years holding various senior positions in the CRM, e-commerce and banking infrastructure departments in the India and Asia-Pacific regional offices. In his recent role with Citibank, Dhar was a key player in the company’s global pilot for remote banking, completing groundbreaking work in electronic distribution channels in India. Subsequently, he worked in IBM’s CRM practice and at ABN Amro Bank in Singapore as the vice-president of alternative channels and CRM.

Dhar is a graduate of Delhi University and the Institute of Management Technology in Ghaziabad. He has also attended the Advanced Management Program at Wharton Business School.
