Amar Wadhwa to join Cheil as national planning director

Wadhwa has experience in marketing, research and strategic planning

Cheil Communications has brought Amar Wadhwa on board as a national planning director. Reliable sources confirm that Wadhwa, vice-president, strategic planning, Publicis India Delhi, is all set to move to Samsung’s in-house creative agency.

Wadhwa, who holds an MBA, began his career in 1994 as a research analyst with the Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB). His foray into advertising happened in 1996, when he moved to Leo Burnett to work in the account management and media planning functions. After a stay of two years there, he joined FCB-Ulka in strategic planning.

Accenture (then Andersen Consulting) happened in 2000 and he worked there as a marketing specialist. He shifted gear back to advertising in 2003 and joined RK Swamy/BBDO; he left the agency in 2005 as general manager, strategic planning. In 2005, he joined Publicis as vice-president, strategic planning. He has worked on brands such as Indian Airlines, Sony TV, ICI Dulux, Coca-Cola, Pepsi and Dabur.

Wadhwa is learnt to be serving a notice period of three months at Publicis currently, which will end on February 5, 2008. Both the date of his stepping out of Publicis and that of joining Cheil could not be ascertained. He was not available for comment at the time of filing this report.
