Club FM COO quits to start his own agency

Sreenath Gopi says he is proud of the establishment he is leaving behind, but eager to start an agency with the best of practices and talent

Sreenath Gopi, chief operating officer, has put in his papers at the Kochi based Club FM 94.3. Gopi joined Club FM in February 2007. A year later, he is moving out to start his own agency.

Speaking to agencyfaqs, Gopi says, “Working with the radio station, which is on air in Thrissur, Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram, was a fruitful experience and parting ways is a mutual decision.”

He says about his stint at Club FM: “It was a challenge, developing talent and programmes in a market which didn’t have any FM experience or any workforce with radio experience. On the other hand, maybe, this was a boon because we started off without any baggage.”

Gopi says with great pride, “It was the local flavour, the natural style of content delivery, which worked to make Club FM the No. 1 radio station in all the three cities in which it was launched. The icing on the cake was that we got a large chunk of business for these three stations.”

On a nostalgic note, Gopi adds that he will be going away with a lot of satisfaction, of having learned a lot about the FM business, He says he is happy to leave behind a project which is doing extremely well. Gopi’s career profile boasts of a strong body of work in the advertising industry before his crossover foray into the FM industry.

He began his career with Shaw Wallace in Delhi. After four years there, he moved to ITC in Kanpur and then to DCM Textiles in Delhi. He worked two years each at both organisations. All these jobs saw him specialise in sales and marketing. His big moment came when he moved to Mudra Communications in Kochi. He headed Mudra’s Kerala branch for 11 years.

Reflecting on his decision to join Club FM, Gopi says, “My tenure at Mudra equipped me with phenomenal relationships with clients, the media and people from the advertising fraternity.”

Gopi plans to start his own advertising agency. He says, “I plan to bring in the best practices of a national agency with an understanding of the local market. The best of talent will be hired. The agency will look for clients who need partners in their business and it will not be a passive partner, submitting to all the demands of the client.”
