The Bombay Ad Club has categorically refused to reconstitute new judging committees and conduct a complete reevaluation of the judging process
Into the third day of the Abby controversy, the Bombay Ad Club has categorically refused to reconstitute new judging committees and conduct a complete reevaluation of the judging process, as demanded by Lowe Lintas & Partners.
Speaking to agencyfaqs! this afternoon, Sumit Roy, member of the executive committee of the Bombay Ad Club, said, "Lintas' demand for a reconstitution of the judging committee is uncalled for. We had explained to Lintas that we had reexamined the judging process following the complaint, and had found nothing unfair whatsoever. There is absolutely no reason for a reconstitution."
When quizzed about what the Ad Club brief to the jury was, Roy replied, "We told the judges to do an independent assessment. But we certainly cannot prevent people from talking. And again, the judges we had are intelligent enough not to be swayed by someone's comment. We also knocked off the top and bottom scores. And if the Proctor or Chairperson had noticed something amiss, he would have certainly ordered a reconstitution himself. We can't be more fair than that."
According to Roy, Lintas' grudge is that it feels its TV commercials for indya.com were not properly assessed. "But you have to remember that the jury was judging the Campaign of the Year - which means both films and print. In this case, the jury probably did not find creative consistency across media. And in any case, we have other categories such as the best commercials and best print campaigns, being judged by an international jury. A good film can win here. All I say is, Lintas should have waited for the final results."
Of course, Lintas, from the very beginning, has made it amply clear that it does not accept the jury's decisions, and would choose not to accept any award, in any category, till the Bombay Ad Club reconstitutes new judging committees and conducts a complete reevaluation of the judging process. And there is nothing to suggest that Lintas is willing to shed its intransigence.
