Sambit Mohanty joins Bates 141 Delhi as executive creative director

He was earlier with Brand Planet Elephant as executive creative director

Sambit Mohanty, executive creative director, Brand Planet Elephant, has moved to Bates 141, Delhi, as executive creative director.

In an official communiqué, Sandeep Pathak, CEO, Bates 141, says, "With Sambit, we complete the refresh of the management team at Bates 141 Delhi. Mohanty will work closely with Vaasu Gavarasana to make the Bates 141 brand a destination for brands looking for real change in the North India market."

He adds that for the agency, the Delhi office will be the focus in 2010; and investing in the Delhi market is important for providing engaging solutions to its current and potential clients.

On joining Bates 141 Delhi, Mohanty says, "It is a good time to be at Bates and I'm looking forward to be part of the action. The team here is hungry, young and keen to create great work, and I'm coming on-board to partner them in this process. Also, I've always been an admirer of Sonal Dabral; and I'm looking forward to the opportunity of working with him."

Sonal Dabral, chairman and regional executive creative director, Bates 141, says, "Getting Sambit on-board is one of the changes we had planned to strengthen our creative talent pool. He has good experience in handling diverse categories, which is also reflected in the work in his portfolio." For Dabral, the Bates 141 Delhi team, under the creative leadership of Mohanty, should produce "fantastic" work.

An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Mohanty has over 10 years of experience in advertising. Starting out as a copywriter at McCann Erickson, he has worked at Euro RSCG, Lowe, Publicis, Vyas Giannetti Creative (VGC) and Leo Burnett. In his last assignment, he headed the creative function at Brand Planet Elephant, an advertising/design firm started in partnership with Elephant Design of Pune.

As a creative director at Leo Burnett, Mohanty created the 'Full of Life' launch campaign for Chevrolet Spark, which included the 'Winking car' commercial. He was also behind the 'Where's the Pulp?' campaign for Minute Maid Pulpy Orange.

During his career, Mohanty has helped build brands, such as those from the Reckitt-Benckiser portfolio (Dettol, Mortein, Harpic, Cherry Blossom), Perfetti Van Melle, Intel, MSN, Tanishq, Britannia, Nestlé (Maggi), HP, ABN Amro, Indian Express, BBC World, Park Hotels and Religare.

Mohanty's awards include Abbys '05, Ad Asia '03, a Silver World Medal at the New York Festivals and a finalist at Cannes. His work has also been showcased in the Luerzer's Archives, a famous advertising journal.

Vaasu Gavarasana, executive vice-president, Bates 141 Delhi, comments on his appointment, "In Sambit, I find a spirited soul willing to work with me to usher a new era at Bates 141 Delhi."
