Span Communications appoints Asad Jamal as COO, media

Jamal, who moves in from Group M, will be responsible for the agency's overall media business.

Asad Jamal has recently been appointed as chief operating officer, media, by the Delhi-based Span Communications India. His last assignment was with Group M's MEC where he served as business director.

At Span, Jamal will be based in the Delhi office, and will report to the agency's chief executive officer, Naresh Kheterpal.

Jamal's immediate mandate includes being in charge of the agency's overall media business. His main job primarily entails the expansion of the business and operations and the management of all the clients that the agency is currently handling.

Commenting on the appointment, Kheterpal says that Jamal has rich experience in media management and planning as he has worked across several high budget brands and corporates. The agency thus plans to utilise his brand and advertising experience to lead operations.

In the past, Jamal has worked with brands such as LG India, Samsung and Sony Electronics, which rate amongst the highest spending advertisers of the country. He has also handled lifestyle and consumer brands such as Mother Dairy, TAG Heuer watches and Benetton.

Jamal, who has been involved with media planning all through his career, entered the industry with a job at Chaitra Leo Burnett and has been associated with Triton Communications, DraftFCB Ulka, Starcom Worldwide and MPG.

Commenting on his appointment, Jamal says, "I am excited to take on this role. Span is a fast growing agency which handles creative and media duties, both under a single roof." Regarding his role at the agency, he says, "My current responsibility will be to expand the business and work in sync with the creative department."

Span Communications, active in the social sector advertising space, recently bagged the Indiabulls and the G'FIVE mobile handset accounts.
