A major in English literature, Nehru has been in advertising for over a decade. She started as a trainee with McCann Erickson, Mumbai, and was there for about three years. She then took a break for a year to pursue vermiculture and teach roller blading to kids.

Nehru worked at Quadrant Communications for a while, followed by a year-long sabbatical. She returned to work with Mudra, where she worked for three years. This was followed by a six-month stint at Ogilvy India, formerly O&M, as creative supervisor. She then moved to Ambience Publicis as associate creative director where she worked for four-and-a-half years. She was promoted to the position of creative director two years later.
