The Kerala Tourism commercial won the 2011 Art & Technique + Technology Bronze World Medal in the Cinematography Art & Technique + Technology category. The much awarded film also fetched Nirvana Films two Art & Technique + Technology Finalist certificates for Direction and Original Music, respectively, while Stark Communications received a TV/Cinema/Promo Finalist certificate in the Transportation/Travel/Tourism TV/Cinema/Promo category.

The film has made its mark at other award shows, too, winning three gold medals at the Pacific Asia Travel Association International Awards, a bronze at the Berlin Golden Gate Awards and a bronze Abby at the Goafest, among others.

On the achievement, Swarup BR, creative director, Stark Communications, says, "We had a first-hand experience of the impact of this three-minute film when we premiered it at the Saatchi Gallery in London to an exclusive audience in September 2010. We have overcome the visual fatigue that had enveloped Kerala by presenting a layered destination soaked in art and culture that the traveller can keep discovering."

Varma tells afaqs! that this was more than just a project, with Kerala being his home state.

"There are certain typical ways most tourism films are shot, but I wanted to bring out the various facets of the state that a traveller can explore, and I am very glad that the film has won in the Cinematography category, and has also been appreciated at other shows," he says.

Besides the Kerala Tourism film, other agencies to have received Finalist certificates are Leo Burnett India, Rediffusion-Y&R, Dentsu Communications and Beehive Communications, across categories.

Leo Burnett India won seven Finalist certificates for its work for Heinz, Tide Detergents, Bajaj Electricals and Gandhijifont.com.

Rediffusion-Y&R won four Finalist certificates for its campaigns for Kaya Skin Clinic, Dr Raj Brahmbhatt, Rasna and Zydus Cadila (Sugar Free). Dentsu won two Finalist certificates for its work for Hope Worldwide India, while Beehive Communications' campaign for Sashikant Gavali (Institute of Rapid Sketching) bagged the agency a Finalist certificate, as well.

The NYF International Advertising Awards competition receives entries from 70 countries and recognises work in all media in categories such as Art/Technique, Technology, Avant-Garde, Collateral, Design, Digital and Interactive, Hispanic USA Advertising, Marketing Effectiveness, Mixed Media, Outdoor, Print, Public Relations/Brand Communications, Public Service Announcements, Radio, Student, and Television/Cinema.
