Silvers for India at One Show and Design; TBWA, Contract, McCann and Ogilvy are winners

TBWA brought home two silver Pencils from One Show Design 2011; Ogilvy owns a silver in Design, as well, while Contract Advertising and McCann India won a silver Pencil each at One Show 2011.

India put up a fair show at the One Show 2011 by bagging two silver Pencils, thanks to McCann Worldgroup and Contract Advertising. Even at the One Show Design 2011, Indian agencies managed to bring home three silver Pencils -- two by TBWA India, and one by Ogilvy India.

Contract Advertising managed to convert its only shortlisted entry into a Pencil. Ravi Deshpande, chairperson and chief creative officer, Contract Advertising, shares his thoughts. "This is a terrific achievement for us. One Show is one of the most competitive awards to win. The competition is stiff, and the jury is not easy to please, as they look for disruptive work with a surprise element in it. In general, standards are high when it comes to the One Show awards," says Deshpande.

On the other hand, McCann Worldgroup's (Mumbai) advertisement 'The Cascade of Books' for Videocon Mobile Phones has won a silver Pencil in the Out of Home (Single) category. Contract Advertising (New Delhi) won its silver Pencil for the campaign 'Save' for Environment Friends, in the Public Service -- Outdoor and Posters (Campaign) category.

On winning the Pencil, Prasoon Joshi, executive chairperson, McCann Worldgroup India, tells afaqs! that for him, awards such as these are a welcome icing on the cake. "I'd like to appreciate my creative team that worked on this winning campaign, particularly Talha Mohsin and Mahesh Parab," he says.

The other entries that the agency was shortlisted for, but didn't manage to convert into a Pencil include campaigns for ATSS Security Solution Provider, Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Illustratorcentral.in, and Nirlep.

At the One Show Design 2011, Indian agencies managed to bring home three silver Pencils. TBWA (Gurgaon) won two silver Pencils for the same brand -- Yatra.com. The agency's Immigration Stamps -- Calendar advertisement won in the Collateral -- Promotion and Direct Mail (Single) categories.

The other silver was won by Ogilvy India (Mumbai) for its campaign for Dr S M Vaidya. Titled 'All About Acupressure', the advertisement won in the Corporate Identity (Single) category.

This year, India had a total of 29 entries that were shortlisted at the One Show awards.

While the main One Show awards felicitate excellence in advertising creativity, across different media channels such as television, print, radio, design, interactive and new media -- all aspects of communication, the One Show Design awards look into the finer aspects of the ad and recognise merit in the way the communication is designed. This could be in terms of the look and feel of the brochure for a particular brand or the packaging for the product in question, or even the use of space in the branding of a certain product -- from a pure design perspective alone.
