Reading Room: I've always been a fan of comic books: Sudarshan Banerjee

Sudarshan Banerjee, former director, business development, DDB Mudra Group and executive vice-president and head, DDB Mudra Ahmedabad, speaks to afaqs! about his reading habits.

I am currently engrossed in reading Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson; The King of Madison Avenue by Kenneth Roman; and Little Red Riding Hood by The Brothers Grimm.

I am reading the Steve Jobs biography to get to know the person behind the enigma; from what I've read so far, he seems to have been a terrible boss to be working for. The King of Madison Avenue is David Ogilvy's story; it has the perspective of Kenneth Roman, who was the chairman of Ogilvy when the agency sold out to WPP. It is completely an insider account of what really happened.

The third book, Little Red Riding Hood, is part of reading together with my five year old daughter. Well, I've been a long time comic books fan, all sorts of comics. Ahem! That apart, I like to do some light reading in behavioural economics, quantum physics and applied neuromarketing. My all-time favourites include The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams (a must read trippy book for everybody), The Dilbert Principle by Scott Adams (for lessons in how to be sarcastic and completely spoilt and get away with it) and Horse Sense by Ries & Trout (for giving far more credit to common sense than is usually given).

Apart from these, I am also fond of reading What They Don't Teach you at Harvard Business School by Mark McCormack. Next, I am waiting to read Amul's India - based on 50 years of Amul Advertising - an anthology that's truly a collector's item and Jaya by Devdutt Pattanaik - I like his takes on the Hindu pantheon, and am interested in his take on the Mahabharata.
