Lemon, O&M Bangalore feature in Communication Arts Annual

Jumbled Letters poster done by Ogilvy Bangalore makes its way to the CA Advertising Annual

For this Mumbai based agency, the timing is just right. As it turns three, Lemon celebrates the news of its work being featured in the coveted Communications Arts Design Annual.

The title of the selected work is Culture Curry Menu. It is a menu card designed for a speciality South Indian restaurant called Culture Curry, owned by Suhas and Deepa Awchat.

Mangesh Rane is the designer; the copy has been written by Malobi Dasgupta and Ashok Salian is the photographer.

Ravi Deshpande, CEO, Lemon, who is quite excited about the news, says, "It feels good. Getting entry in CA is tough and our designers are doing some international quality work. So, it's a great beginning. I'm also glad that apart from the CA jury, it has enjoyed a good amount of popularity among the restaurant's clientèle."

The unique design of the menu card was inspired by the South Indian films. "Since the restaurant has an exhaustive menu from every state in South India, it was important to give its overall identity a home-grown, authentic South Indian feel. The menu card has been inspired by the uniqueness of South Indian movies, which has assumed the form of cult art. It also makes for more interesting reading than menu cards normally do," Deshpande explains.

That was for the Design Annual. The 2004 issue of the CA Advertising Annual too has seen another entry from India. This is the Jumbled Letters poster from Ogilvy & Mather, Bangalore for client IBM.

Incidentally, this is the same poster that had earlier fetched O&M a Merit Award at the One Show and was a short-listed entry at Cannes.

With two more agencies finding their works between the covers of the CA Advertising and Design Annual, the tally from India has gone up to four agencies: rmg david, Delhi, O&M, Delhi and Bangalore, McCann-Erickson, Mumbai and Lemon, Mumbai.
