Swiggy, an on-demand convenience platform, has announced the launch of a dedicated ‘High Protein’ category on its marketplace. As protein becomes more common in Indian diets, this new category aims to make high-protein food items easier to find and order. The High Protein category is live in 30 cities, including Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, and Jaipur. It features over five lakh dishes from more than 35,000 restaurant partners across India.
Swiggy’s new offering helps users find curated high-protein dishes without browsing long menus or labels. Each dish in the High Protein category meets set nutritional standards: at least 15 grams of protein per serving, 700 kcal or less per dish, and a protein-to-calorie ratio of at least 10%. These criteria ensure the dishes are protein-rich and suitable for regular consumption.
Commenting on the feature, Deepak Maloo, vice president, food strategy, customer experience and new initiatives, Swiggy said, “We believe that small, everyday choices shape long-term well-being. Proteins are an essential part of our daily intake. With the launch of the High Protein category, we aim to make high protein dishes more accessible to our users, in turn enabling better health and well-being. As food preferences evolve, we, at Swiggy, are committed to not just reflect those shifts but shape them by helping people discover what’s good for them, and still delicious. We will continue to partner with restaurants to further expand the range of High Protein food items available on the Swiggy app”
The feature is designed to make it easy for users to find high-protein dishes. Consumers can search for terms like “Protein” or “Diet” on the Swiggy app to access the High Protein section. Dishes are grouped by protein content (in grams), and users can filter them by protein source, such as paneer or soya. Protein-rich items are also listed at the top when browsing a restaurant’s menu.
Over 1.8 million customers used the High Protein category during its pilot phase, according to Swiggy. Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi recorded the highest number of orders, while cities like Chandigarh also showed strong demand, indicating growing interest in high-protein meals beyond metro areas.
