The Internet TV channel streams nine Indian channels to audiences abroad for $25 a month
Watchindia.tv, the Internet television channel launched a month ago, has added three new Indian channels to its portfolio. The channels are Zee Cinema, Zee Punjabi and Zee Gujarati. The other Indian channels on Watch India are Times Now, Zee TV, Zee Sports, Zoom, IOL and Aastha. While the rest are broadcast channels, IOL is an IPTV channel, to be available in 28 Indian cities by the next financial year.
Watch India streams channels at high quality of up to 800 Kbps, which can be viewed on the full screen of a computer, or on a TV set. At $25 a month, subscribers can watch the six basic Indian TV channels. They can also avail of facilities such as video-on-demand, music-on-demand, pause and play, and time-shifted TV. Watch India claims that it has had more than a lakh unique visitors since its launch and more than 500 people signing up daily for its free trial. The company is targeting the 3.5 million Indians based in the US and Canada.
The Indian audience abroad is becoming a lucrative one for TV channels looking to expand their reach through the Internet. Recently, Piotv.com was launched to stream Indian television content to persons of Indian origin around the world.
