Reality in Motion (RIM) has tied up Reliance Communication to launch India’s first CDMA BlackBerry phone
Research in Motion (RIM) BlackBerry phones, which are popular for accessing mail and messaging along with web browsing capacity on the move, are now extending their reach beyond GSM in India. RIM has joined up with Reliance Communications to offer India’s first CDMA BlackBerry phone in India. Till now, BlackBerry phones were only available through GSM operators such as Airtel and Hutch.
“Reliance is planning to cash in on the web browsing capability of BlackBerry and want to position it ‘beyond e-mail’ by offering services such as online trading,” says Prakash Bajpai, president, RCOM. Apart from this, Reliance will offer Bloomberg services and also the facility to stream videos.
To begin with, Reliance is planning to launch its service through the Blackberry Pearl, BlackBerry 8703e, BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry 8830 World Edition. The BlackBerry 8830 and 8703e handsets will initially be available in 16 cities.
Reliance Communications also has plans to launch BlackBerry phones under its GSM network in various phases and it is has launched the BlackBerry Pearl on its GSM network in Indore.
